Tampa Cruise Hotels with a Shuttle to Port Tampa Bay
If you're sailing out of Tampa, you've probably searched for “hotels near the cruise port with a free shuttle” and found a long list of hotels that all claim to be cruiser friendly. Here's the thing nobody tells you: very few hotels near Port Tampa Bay actually run their own free shuttle to the ship. Some charge for it, some only include it in a parking package, and some are close enough that you don't need a shuttle at all.
So I'm breaking it down the way I'd want it explained to me: which hotels really have a shuttle, which ones are walkable, and which ones make sense if you're driving in and need somewhere to leave your car.
- Shuttles are rare: Only a handful of Tampa hotels run their own cruise shuttle, and most charge for it or bundle it into a park and cruise package.
- Closest with a free shuttle: The Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites in the Channel District. Put your name on the list when you check in.
- Driving in? A park and cruise package can be cheaper than a week of parking at the port.
- Always confirm: Call the hotel to confirm shuttle times before you book. These policies change.
Where I Stayed: Hyatt House Tampa Downtown
On my most recent Tampa sailing, I stayed at the Hyatt House Tampa Downtown, and I really liked it. The biggest selling point for me was how close it is. It's about a mile from the cruise terminal, right in downtown Tampa.
Breakfast is free, and the rooms are set up for longer stays, with kitchenettes and extra space. We booked the Den rooms with two queen beds, which worked well for sharing. There's also a heated pool on the 5th floor sun deck with great city views.
A couple of things to know before you book. The hotel doesn't list a cruise shuttle, so plan on a quick Uber or taxi to the port. The TECO Line Streetcar stops nearby at the Whiting Street station if you want to explore downtown or Ybor City. Parking is valet only in the connected garage, with a 7 foot clearance, so it's a better fit if you're flying in than if you're leaving your car for the week. Tampa Hotels That Actually Have a Cruise Shuttle
Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites Tampa Downtown Channel District
These two share a building about half a mile from the port, and they're the closest hotels to the cruise terminals. They run a free shuttle to the port. Here's how it works: once you check in, put your name on the shuttle list. The shuttle runs in a loop every 5 to 7 minutes, so you won't be waiting long. Parking is about $41 a day, and they don't publish a cruise parking deal. Check rates at the Hampton Inn or the Home2 Suites
The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk
About 1.5 miles from the port. It lists a free shuttle on its website, covering a two-mile radius from 8 AM to 10 PM on a first come, first served basis. It also offers a “Ship & Shore” cruise package with parking for up to 10 days and a round-trip shuttle; you'll show your boarding pass at check-in. Check rates at the Barrymore
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa East, Ybor City
About 4 miles from the port. It offers a paid shuttle to the cruise port at select times. Its “Stay and Cruise” package includes parking for your cruise, and without the package, extended parking runs $75 for up to 14 days for one car. Check rates at the Holiday Inn Express
Quality Inn & Suites Tampa near Fairgrounds and Casino
About 4 miles from the port. Its “Stay Park and Cruise” package includes up to 14 days of parking and a round-trip shuttle. You can also buy the shuttle on its own. Check rates at the Quality Inn Ybor
Quality Inn Tampa Airport, Cruise Port
Near the airport, about 7 miles from the port. It offers a free airport shuttle and a paid cruise shuttle, plus a “Park & Cruise” package with parking for 14 days and breakfast. Check rates at the Quality Inn Tampa Airport
Hotels Close Enough That You Don't Need a Shuttle
These hotels are close to the cruise terminals, so a quick, cheap Uber or taxi ride (or the streetcar) gets you there without a shuttle.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Tampa Downtown Convention Center
About half a mile from the port and one of the highest rated hotels in the area on Tripadvisor. There's no hotel shuttle, but the TECO Line Streetcar stops right outside. Ask about its “Park, Stay & Go” package if you're driving in. Check rates at the Embassy Suites
Tampa Marriott Water Street
About half a mile from the port, with the streetcar outside too. It's valet only, so it's a better pick if you're flying in than if you're driving. Check rates at the Marriott Water Street
Hotel Haya in Ybor City
Highly rated and full of character, about a mile and a half from the port, with a streetcar stop next door. There's no cruise shuttle or cruise parking package, so plan on a rideshare. Check rates at Hotel Haya
Driving In? Park and Cruise vs. Port Parking
If you're driving to Tampa, compare a park and cruise package against parking at the port. Packages bundle your hotel night, your parking for the cruise, and sometimes a shuttle, and they can come out cheaper on longer sailings. My Tampa cruise port guide has the current port parking details and a cheaper off-site lot I recommend.
Do You Even Need a Shuttle?
Often, no. From downtown, an Uber to the cruise terminal is a short ride, and if you're at the Hampton Inn or Home2 Suites, the free shuttle loops every few minutes anyway. A shuttle matters most if you're staying near the airport or in Ybor and don't want to deal with rideshare surge pricing on embarkation morning.
Tampa Cruise Hotels FAQ
Which Tampa hotels have a free shuttle to the cruise port?
Very few. The Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites in the Channel District run a free shuttle (sign up for it at check-in), and the Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk lists a free shuttle within a two-mile radius. Most other hotels charge for a cruise shuttle or include it only in a park and cruise package.
What's the closest hotel to Port Tampa Bay?
The Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites in the Channel District share a building about half a mile from the cruise terminals.
Can I walk to the Tampa cruise terminal from my hotel?
From the Channel District hotels, it's about half a mile. It's doable with light luggage, but the Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites run a free shuttle, so there's no reason to drag your bags.
Is a park and cruise package worth it in Tampa?
It can be, especially on longer sailings, since it bundles your hotel night and parking. Compare the package price to the port's daily parking rate before you book.
