Costa Maya Cruise Port: Nacional Beach Club Honest Review & Booking Guide
Nacional Beach Club in Costa Maya
Nacional Beach Club is one of my favorite ways to spend the day near the Costa Maya cruise port in Mexico. Located in Mahahual just a short ride from the terminal, it offers an upscale, all-inclusive beach day experience that consistently impresses me more than any other spot in the area.
I had been to Costa Maya many times and tried several options, but on my first visit to the Nacional Beach Club, I absolutely fell in love with the place, and now it’s the only place I return to when cruising here.
What I found was a laid-back yet elevated beach club that felt quieter and more curated than the busy beach bars further down the Malecón. The food and drink options were outstanding, the service was attentive, and the property never felt overcrowded thanks to their limited day pass sales. It’s not without its drawbacks, but for me, the benefits far outweigh them.
Because I visit here frequently, I make a lot of video content about the Nacional Beach Club (which you can find here), so people often ask me about the specifics, which I'll share in this post.
I'll let you know what to expect at Nacional Beach Club, what’s included with their day pass, what works and what doesn’t, the good AND the bad, and a few tips to help you decide if it’s the right fit for your Costa Maya cruise port stop.

About Nacional Beach Club
First things first... it's pronounced nah-see-oh-NAHL. Not "national" like in English. And once you've been, you'll remember it. :)
Unlike some beach clubs that feel like part of a cruise-run chain (or worse, fake boutique brands quietly owned by a big hospitality group), Nacional is the real deal. It's an actual small business owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team who actually live in Costa Maya and are deeply involved in its day-to-day operations.
Because I visit there often, I've gotten to know them and they're lovely. She’s a local from the area, and he’s an American expat who moved to Costa Maya as a teenager and never left. Together, they’ve built a beach club that reflects their values, their roots in the community, and their commitment to offering something more thoughtful than the typical cookie-cutter port experience.
They care about the details, like how you're welcomed, the food you’re served, the vibe of the place, and it shows. It’s one of the few beach clubs in Costa Maya that genuinely prioritizes guest experience over cruise passenger volume. In fact, they intentionally limit it, and that's by design, and that makes all the difference.
In addition to welcoming day pass guests from cruise ships, Nacional Beach Club also operates as a boutique beachfront hotel with just a handful of bungalow-style rooms.
One small thing that Nacional Beach Club provides that I really appreciate is beach towels. I hate carting heavy, bulky beach towels from the ship, and dragging them back all sandy and wet afterward, so I don't have to worry about that here.
And while I don't love the vendors who can become annoying (more on that below), I do appreciate Nacional Beach Club's location. Not only is it close to the cruise terminal, but it's located right off the Malecón

How to Book Nacional Beach Club in Costa Maya
The best way to book Nacional Beach Club is directly through their official page. It supports the owners directly, keeps more money in the hands of the people actually providing your experience, and avoids the overhead and limitations that sometimes come with third-party systems.
You can also find Nacional Beach Club listed on trusted third-party platforms like Resort for a Day if you prefer the flexibility of booking through a consolidated excursion platform.
But my personal recommendation is to book direct whenever possible. It gives you the best access to current details, makes communication easier, and helps small business owners avoid paying high platform fees.
Plus, when you book Nacional Beach Club direct and mention that you heard about it from me, they’ll apply a special discount exclusive to my readers. Just include code "PROFMELISSA" in the notes section at checkout.
Availability is limited, especially on busy port days, so booking in advance is a smart move if you're set on this spot. Whether you go direct or through a platform, Nacional consistently delivers a memorable experience in Costa Maya.

Getting to Nacional Beach Club in Costa Maya from the Cruise Port
Getting to Nacional Beach Club is easy compared to some other beach clubs in the region, because it's close to the cruise terminal and they cover the cost for you.
Once you exit the Costa Maya cruise terminal (which takes longer than you think, so budget time to navigate the intentionally maze-like village), you’ll find the official yellow taxi stand just outside the gates. These are government-regulated taxis with flat posted rates, and drivers are familiar with the beach club stops. Just say “Nacional Beach Club” and they’ll know exactly where to go.
The taxi ride itself to Nacional Beach Club is quick, only about 5 to 10 minutes max, and although the road isn’t silky smooth, it’s paved and direct.
The fare is usually around $4-6 per person, but the great thing is that Nacional covers that cost. Once you arrive and exit the taxi, let the front desk staff know upon check-in, and they’ll handle it. They'll typically go out and pay your taxi driver directly.
I’ve taken these taxis solo, with friends, and with my kid, and every time I’ve found them clean, calm, and no-nonsense. Taxis in Costa Maya certainly aren't luxury vehicles, and I've even had ones that lack air conditioning, but they’re safe, regulated, and reliable. And the drive from the Costa Maya terminal to Nacional Beach Club is short anyway.
The minute you pull up at Nacional, staff are there to greet you. Once they pay your taxi driver, check-in is fast, your loungers are reserved, and drinks start flowing quickly.
What I like most about this taxi process is that it lets you travel on your own time. There's no waiting for shared vans, like waiting for those annoying stragglers who are always late and disrepectful of others' time, or being crammed in with 15 other people trying to make multiple stops.
You simply take a cab when you’re ready, and you leave the same way. And as you exit, the Nacional Beach Club staff will pre-pay your driver for that ride.

Beach Massages at Nacional Beach Club
If you’re booking a beach club that sits along the Malecón in Costa Maya, like Nacional Beach Club, you’ll likely have the option to enjoy a beachside massage. These aren’t operated by the beach club itself, but they’re usually local independent providers who set up along the shore with portable massage tables just steps from the palapas and loungers.
The setup is simple but effective: shaded areas or umbrellas for comfort, clean linens, and the sound of the waves in the background. You stay in your swimsuit, and a small towel is draped over part of your body during the session.
If you're a woman, the masseuse will usually loosen your bikini or top strap to access your back. It’s done in a public space, but they do a good job of keeping your privacy intact so you don’t feel exposed, even with people walking up and down the Malecón nearby.
Pricing is generally affordable, with most massages ranging from $25 to $45 for about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the service. Tips are customary and appreciated, especially since many of these providers rely heavily on cruise day visitors for their income.
As someone who gets massages regularly at home, I feel qualified to say that the Costa Maya beach massages just hit different. They're exceptional, and for the price they absolutely can't be beat.
What’s Included at Nacional Beach Club
Nacional Beach Club offers a true all-inclusive day pass for cruisers visiting the Costa Maya cruise port. The inclusions are generous and consistently better than what I’ve experienced at the beach bars along the Malecón.
In fact, I find their food to be the best of every all-inclusive I've ever visited across the world, not just in Costa Maya or in Mexico. Typically, all-inclusive food is "meh" at best, but at Nacional it's more like high quality restaurant food and, yes, that includes lobster.
Your day pass covers all food and beverages for the full length of your stay. This includes breakfast items, which is something most Costa Maya beach day options do not offer and is a nice perk when you arrive there in the morning and want to maximize the "all-inclusive" aspect with not one, but two meals (breakfast and lunch).
I always order the Nutella crepe because it hits that perfect spot between vacation indulgence and comfort food. Lunch options are also available throughout the day, and everything is made to order, per person, rather than scooped from trays or pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp.
Drinks include bottled water, soft drinks, fresh juices, smoothies, and alcoholic beverages. Servers make the rounds often enough that you never feel stranded waiting for a refill, and you can also order directly at the bar if you prefer.
All guests with day passes to the Nacional Beach Club are assigned either a palapa or lounger, and these are significantly more comfortable than what you’ll find at Krazy Lobster or most public access setups in Mahahual. WiFi is included, and while it's not blazing fast, it's generally reliable enough for messaging and social media browsing.
A small plunge pool is available on site, which matters more than you might think. Sargassum can be unpredictable in this region, and having a pool gives you a backup option if ocean conditions are not ideal. There is also a netted swimming area and in-water hammocks, though the sea floor in parts of the water is coral and not ideal for walking.
As noted, round-trip transportation to and from the cruise port is part of the package. You take a taxi from the port and Nacional covers the fare when you arrive. They also arrange your return ride so you are not stuck waiting in a long taxi line at the end of the day. And again, you don't have to pay, as that's included.
The resort offers reduced pricing for kids and teens, which is rare for an all-inclusive beach option in Costa Maya and makes this a better value for families than many alternatives.

What’s Not Included at Nacional Beach Club
Nacional Beach Club is a true all-inclusive experience. That means your day pass covers food, drinks, beach chairs, shaded loungers, Wi-Fi, clean restrooms, use of beach towels, outdoor showers, and even things like fresh juices, smoothies, and liquor. And unlike many cruise port resort locations, they also include round-trip transportation to and from the cruise terminal.
There aren’t any sneaky upcharges once you arrive, and you won’t be nickel-and-dimed for basic amenities.
That said, tips are not included in your booking and are always appreciated. It’s customary to tip your server at the end of your visit, especially if they’ve been checking on you throughout the day, keeping your drinks full, or making sure you have everything you need. A general guideline is around $10 to $20 USD per person for good service, but tip what feels right to you.
If you opt for one of those amazing beach massages or purchase something from a vendor when visiting Nacional Beach Club, those are obviously separate transactions and are paid in cash (and with massages, tips are also customary).
Otherwise, everything you need for a perfect beach day is included in your day pass without extra fees.

Which Beach Club in Costa Maya is Best?
Of all the beach day options near the Costa Maya cruise port, Nacional Beach Club hits a sweet spot for me. It’s not loud, it’s not stuffy, and it never feels overcrowded. The vibe here is relaxed, boutique, and low-key, which is perfect if you want to enjoy the beach without constant noise, big crowds, or music blasting in the background.
The limited number of day passes they sell keeps the space from ever feeling overrun, and you don’t have to hover around waiting for a lounger to free up. The service is attentive without being intrusive, and it feels like they’ve figured out how to give cruisers a peaceful beach day without skimping on experience.
If you're trying to decide between Nacional Beach Club and other popular beach day spots in Costa Maya, here's how I’d compare the vibe:
Krazy Lobster
Krazy Lobster is usually packed, loud, and full of energy. If you’re looking for a party scene, it can be fun. But for me, the crowds and vendor interruptions get old fast. The loungers aren’t great, and the beach area isn’t as clean or scenic as others. It’s budget-friendly and popular for a reason, but it’s not where I go when I want to relax.
Yaya Beach
Yaya Beach is similar in vibe to Krazy Lobster, though a little more refined. It’s still in the heart of the action, but the property is a bit more organized. Expect music, crowds, and vendors walking by. Great for social travelers, less ideal for those who want peace and quiet.

Jaime’s at the Blue Reef
Jaime’s at the Blue Reef offers a more balanced vibe, and it's actually located right by Nacional. It’s quieter than Krazy or Yaya but still right on the Malecón and accessible. It feels like a solid middle ground for cruisers who want an all-inclusive experience but don’t need ultra-luxury.
The service is personal, and the space is limited, which helps keep the atmosphere calm but not dull. I prefer Nacional, though, namely because of the difference in food quality, and I also prefer the all-inclusive price structure of Nacional compared to the way Jaime's does it.
Maya Chan
Maya Chan is tucked away from the main stretch, down a rougher road, and has a totally different feel. It’s also family-run, slow-paced, and everything is included. The seating is shaded and private, the food is excellent, and the service is personal. Of all the options, this one is probably the most comparable to Nacional.
Maya Chan is more rustic than Nacional, meaning it’s also quieter and less likely to have vendors passing by. If you want a secluded, fully hosted beach day without the town energy, Maya Chan delivers that. It’s just a bit harder to get to, and the sea grass can be heavier here, so it’s good to manage expectations.
Hayhu Beach
Hayhu is the most remote, the most tranquil, and easily the most premium experience of the group. But it’s also a solid 35 minutes away by taxi down some bumpy, dusty roads. The resort caps the number of daily guests at around 50, so you won’t be dealing with crowds or vendors at all. It’s lush, quiet, and feels totally removed from the chaos of port, but you’ll pay more for that serenity, and it may not be ideal for families with younger kids unless the ocean conditions are perfect.

Why Nacional Wins for Me
For me, Nacional Beach Club hits the best balance. It’s not cheap, but it’s not the most expensive either. It’s close to the cruise port, the beach area is beautiful, and I always leave feeling like I had a real vacation day, not just a crowded beach stop. The presence of vendors is a drawback, but the vibe, quality of service, and guaranteed space make it the one I keep going back to.

Why Nacional Is the Best Beach Club in Costa Maya
Out of all the beach clubs in Costa Maya, Nacional Beach Club is the one I always come back to. The personalized service, attention to detail, and consistent quality are in a different league compared to other options in Costa Maya. It’s not just about having loungers or open bar access, though those are great, of course; it’s about the way they treat their guests, the calm atmosphere they preserve, and the pride they take in doing things well.
The food is hands down the best I’ve had at any cruise port beach club, and the fact that they offer breakfast, fresh seafood (yes, including lobster), and cocktails that actually taste like someone cared makes it a standout. As someone who drinks minimal alcohol, I like that the included beverages don't just include alcohol drinks, water, and soft drinks, but also fresh fruit smoothies.
Service is there when you need and want it, but never overbearing, and every visit feels like it was designed to be memorable, not just efficient.
For me, Nacional Beach Club is that rare escape when I can actually relax, which is hard for me. I find it peaceful, beautiful, and well-run, and that combination of vibe, food, and service is why it's easily the best beach club in Costa Maya... at least in my opinion.

Downsides to Know Before Booking Nacional
As much as I love Nacional Beach Club, there are a few drawbacks you should understand so you know what you are signing up for.
Sargassum
This is not unique to Nacional, and it is not something they can control. Sargassum affects the entire Costa Maya coastline, and the impact varies from day to day.
Staff work hard to clear it from the beach, but you can't fight mother nature. When the sargassum rolls in heavily, you may not get that perfect, clear turquoise water. On those days, the small plunge pool at Nacional is a welcome backup option, although be aware that it is very small.
Vendors Can Break the Vibe
If there is one drawback that gives people pause, and the one thing that I personally dislike about Nacional Beach Club, it is the number of beach vendors who walk along the Malecón area.
They are not affiliated with Nacional, but legally have access to the beach path. The annoyance of vendors will be an issue for all beach clubs located along the Malecón, though, so it's not a problem unique to Nacional.
A simple and polite no thank you is usually enough, but if you prefer a beach day without interruptions, this may bother you and you might prefer a more off-the-beaten-path resort like Hayhu.
Capacity Is Limited
This is a strength and a weakness. Limited capacity keeps the experience calm and never overcrowded, and is one of the key reasons why I love Nacional Beach Club (I despise crowds), but it also means Nacional sells out frequently, and in peak season sells out far in advance.
If you wait until the last minute, you might miss the chance to book. Cruisers who want flexibility or who decide plans day of may find that frustrating.
Pricing Will Not Be the Lowest
Nacional Beach Club is priced higher than casual spots like Krazy Lobster and other build-your-own day pass clubs (depending, of course, on how much you eat and drink at those competing spots). The quality and inclusions justify it for me, but if you are looking for the cheapest option, this is not it.
If budget is your primary concern, Krazy Lobster and Jaime's may be better choices, as long as you limit consumption.
If you do want to book your day pass at Nacional Beach Club, you can save 5% on your booking. I have an exclusive arrangement with them, where you can book direct here and use promo code "PROFMELISSA" to receive the discount.
